Our recruitment philosophy

WiCDS is first and foremost a professional development community. As such, we seek to welcome to our community students who have a true desire to contribute positively and participate in this space with enthusiasm.

We don't want our application process to feel intimidating—at its core, our application is about finding where in WiCDS you would thrive the most, not about whether you belong here.

General membership

If you want to become a general member, there is NO APPLICATION process! Simply fill out this form!

We would love to welcome you to our club-wide events and hope that you have easy access to, and benefit from, the many opportunities and socials that we invite our members to participate in. We can't wait to welcome you this semester. Please come up to our officer team and introduce yourself!

Committee membership

We have a 3-step application process for committees—this is because each committee serves a different purpose, and to determine which committee would benefit you the most, we'd like to learn more about your experience & goals. If you apply for one committee and we think you would be a better fit in another, we will give you the option to interview there! We're here to support you on your journey into the world of tech, so feel free to reach out with any questions.

  1. Sign up for a coffee chat with at least one of our officers. You can sign up by clicking on the Calendly link under any officer's name.

  2. Fill out the written application. (We'll update the link to that here once the application opens.) It's very short—that's on purpose. We want to know you have a genuine interest in the club and that you're willing to devote time to your committee—that's all.

  3. If we select you to move to the final round, you'll have a short interview with the committee chairs. We will only offer each applicant one interview for one committee based on where we think you'd be a good fit.

For the Data Science committee, this will be a 20-minute conversation about your previous experience (if any), your interest in joining WiCDS, and your goals for the semester.

For the Machine Learning committee, this will be a 30-minute interview about your interest in joining WiCDS, your previous data science / tech experience, and your ability to understand and answer questions about a technical article we'll ask you to read beforehand.

For the Projects committee, this will be a 30-minute interview about your previous technical experience, your interest in joining WiCDS, and your skills or experience working collaboratively within a team.

You can find the committee application here!

Interest form

If you're reading this outside of our recruitment timeline, submit this interest form that we monitor year-round, and we'll reach out to you directly about ways to get involved.
